HOW THE TECHNOLOGY WORKS
When subsurface contamination is identified, environmental
professionals typically install a series of vertical wells to sample soil,
bedrock and groundwater and map the contaminated area. IVEY’s
suite of products work through a process the company describes as
“phase transfer”: surfactant-based technologies are injected into the
contaminated zones, where they selectively lift contaminants off the soil
particles they’re sorbed (adsorbed or absorbed) to and into solution
— at which point the contaminant mass is more ‘available’ within the
groundwater to be easily pumped out and treated.
The result is that contaminated soil, bedrock and groundwater regimes
can be treated in place, rather rapidly, averting excavation or other
unsustainable actions.

BIOREMEDIATION SITE IN KUWAIT
For large-scale sites, the same chemistry can also be applied to
bioremediation soil piles (bio-piles) — large long rows of excavated soil,
where treatment is accelerated by increasing the ‘Bio-Availability’ of the
contamination before the soil is remediated for potential reuse.
