The stal' w'as m name can be understood as “a space
where you can view the river.” The English name is Riverview.
The name recognizes First Nations’ historical and current
connections to the area.
“A traditional name is not bestowed lightly and carries reminders and responsibilities,” said Chief Marilyn Gabriel, Kwantlen
First Nation. “With the new name, we honour our past, present
and future, and the importance of this area to both Kwantlen and
Musqueam. We also re昀氀ect on our long-standing connections to
sacred lands and resources on both sides of the bridge crossing and
stal'əw̓̓ (Fraser River). The name reminds us that with many connections shared in this area, we all are responsible to honour and
uphold its well-being and generosity it has provided for countless
generations.”
Fraser Crossing Partners was selected to design, build the new
four-lane crossing. Fraser Crossing Partners team includes: Acciona Construccion S.A.; Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc.; Aecon
Group Inc.; Aecon Constructors, a division of Aecon Construction

“Aecon is incredibly proud to deliver the stal'əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge, a vital crossing that will enhance safety and provide
an improved east-to-west corridor for the growing communities
of Surrey and New Westminster,” said Jean-Louis Servranckx,
president and CEO, Aecon. “The opening of the stal'əw̓asəm Bridge
marks the culmination of years of dedication, problem-solving, and
collaboration across every part of the Fraser Crossing Partners team
working alongside the Province of British Columbia.”
