New CFO for Char Tech
CAN-Rac’s National Policy Manager
Kevin Melnyk is the new Chief Financial O昀케cer of
CHAR Technologies, based in Toronto, Ontario. He is an
accomplished 昀椀nancial executive with deep expertise
in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), capital structuring,
and renewable energy infrastructure 昀椀nance. He brings
extensive senior leadership experience from Clearlight
Energy, Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp., and PRIVEQ Capital
Funds, and holds CFA and CPA,CA designations alongside a Bachelor of Commerce
(Honours) from the University of Manitoba.
Climate Action Network Canada (CAN-Rac) has announced that Katie
Gibbs—a longtime scientist, organizer, and environmentalist—has
joined the team as the new National Policy Manager.

“Kevin’s deep experience structuring capital across renewable energy and infrastructure projects, combined with his track record in M&A and debt and equity markets, makes him exceptionally well-suited to help us execute on our
pipeline and scale the business.”

His primary focus is on capital strategy, project 昀椀nance, and commercialization
as the company scales its biocarbon and renewable energy infrastructure.
Gibbs will spearhead the development of CAN-Rac’s national policy strategy and positions, in
collaboration with CAN-Rac’s network of nearly 200 member organizations from coast to coast.

Gibbs has spent more than two decades championing bold climate
action. After completing her Ph.D. at the University of Ottawa in
Conservation Biology, she co-founded Evidence for Democracy, a
national not-for-pro昀椀t organization promoting science and the transparent use of
evidence in government decision-making.
