FOR THIS EDITION, we are putting the spotlight on Canada’s new National
Electricity Strategy. This plan is expected to double the capacity of the electricity
grid by 2050 and supply clean, reliable, a昀昀ordable power across the country for
decades to come.
To develop this strategy, the federal government is launching consultations with
provinces, territories, Indigenous Peoples, utilities, and unions. Over the next
few months, they will work together to identify the actions needed to double
the grid most e昀昀ectively and a昀昀ordably. The result will be a more robust clean
energy industry and up to $15 billion in total energy savings by 2050, with lower
total energy costs for seven in 10 Canadian households.
The strategy will be guided by four pillars:

This will require generational investments in generation, transmission,
distribution, storage, and grid modernisation. These new consultations will
explore how to most e昀昀ectively 昀椀nance the build-out, to spread the costs
over time to match the bene昀椀ts, keeping energy a昀昀ordable and our country
competitive.
